Thank you to the lady who recently bought this watercolour "Featherweight" from Shop 38 at Kingaroy Art Gallery. I hope that it gives you as much pleasure to look at as it did me to paint! Blue wrens are beloved in Australia and are a joy both to watch and to paint. We are lucky that they are permanent residents in our garden here in Queensland as they provide hours of free entertainment. Tiny Jack wren with his handsome blue coat is the bravest bird on the block. In breeding season he will spend most of the day sparring with his reflection, chasing him from window to window of the house and even the side mirrors of the car! No bigger than a ball of cotton wool on two toothpick legs, to him size doesn't matter at all! Maybe that's because he's constantly surrounded by a bevy of groupies, the jenny wrens who seem to egg him on and admire his every move like a group of teenage cheerleaders. I never tire of painting blue wrens and trying to capture their fragile bravery.
