Ephemera

Our garden is suddenly full of all different types of butterflies playing tag as they chase each other from flower to flower. What could be more fragile and fleeting than a butterfly? There is no better medium to express their ephemeral nature than watercolour, which is the perfect way to capture light, transparency and movement. Yesterday I watched the dizzying dance of a couple of golden butterflies and then waited till they settled on nearby flowers where I could observe them closely before trying to capture that essence on paper.
