I paint things that move me, inspire me and excite me and hope that I provoke those emotions in the people who view my work. Artistic taste is a pretty personal thing, and I never know which of my paintings will be popular or even which will sell. It is always a humbling experience to me when someone likes something I have created enough to spend their hard-earned cash on it and want to take it home or buy it as a gift for someone else. For me this matters more than prizes in competitions, not because I made a sale, but because it means the painting has provoked an emotional reaction in the person who purchases it. This week I was pleasantly surprised when two of my paintings were purchased in the recent Summer Exhibition at Kingaroy Art Gallery. Both were of animals, one of my favourite subjects. In each I tried to convey the tenderness I feel towards these creatures. Here they are: "Foal" and "Disappearing: African Elephant". I hope they bring their new owners lots of pleasure.
