Home is where the lockdown is

Maybe it's being at home so much during the Coronavirus 'lockdown' that has inspired me to paint a series of watercolours of old cottages in isolated landscapes. I am always moved by tiny buildings set in vast landscapes. To me they symbolise our human vulnerability and need for safe haven and refuge from hostile terrain, harsh climate and forces greater than ourselves. They are metaphors for the steadfast bravery of the pioneers facing day to day hardships, threats and challenges. Although the threats and challenges we are now confronted with are of a very different kind, the symbolism still speaks to us.
