Still Life

I've been using the enforced lockdown time to experiment with techniques and subjects I don't often paint. Most recently I grabbed three apples from the fridge and attempted a fairly loose still life of them, painting them directly without an underlying pencil drawing. This way of painting is my preferred way of painting lots of things as it allows a freedom to improvise, be more spontaneous and intuitively respond to what the paint is doing. As we slowly start to emerge from the Coronavirus lockdown here in Australia, it strikes me that we are all having to improvise and respond quickly to the changed world we are now living in. But as things slowly start to come out of hibernation, it is comforting to see that there is still life out there!
